Eco house
Suffolk
The original farmhouse was too derelict to be saved but an old brick barn was positioned with fantastic views across open fields beyond. We rebuilt this barn and linked it to a new wing of accommodation that defined a sheltered but open garden with long views across the open countryside to the south east.
The barn replacement contains the kitchen and dining with a mezzanine sitting room enjoying open views across the fields. The new, timber clad wing contains living spaces and the master suite at ground floor and a further four bedrooms above.
The orientation of the house ensures that key openings relate to the path of the sun throughout the day. A ground source heat pump works in conjunction with a roof mounted PV array and heat recovery units to create a highly efficient and low carbon home.
