Ash farmhouse is a listed building in the heart of Ashwell; the owners asked me to look at options to link the house to a lovely barn to the rear.
There was a very poorly lit ‘link’ corridor between the house and the barn; we created a larger space which functions as the dining room and family room both linking between barn and house. The kitchen in the old house now opens into the new extension which creates a focal space between the house and the garden - a living ‘heart’ for the family and flows seamlessly into the beautifully planted garden.
We first worked with Toni on some tricky remodelling of the bathrooms in our listed, timber framed house and found her really easy to work with. She understood straight away what we were trying to achieve and her 'can do' attitude coupled with her attention to detail and creativity resulted in very successful outcomes to some tricky spaces.
Toni's design ideas were great and she helped us through the tricky process of listed building consent in a calm and efficient manner. The result was an amazing new living and dining area which works beautifully with old character of the house. The quality of her design work exceeded our expectations, always coming up with clever solutions to difficult problems and spaces and always sensitive to the history and materials of the old part of the house.
We trusted Toni at every step of the project and would be very happy to recommend her work to anyone. Ten years on from the completion of the extension we still get compliments from visitors and the room has become the living heart of our home.
We really hope to work with Toni again at some point, we love her work and she is a lovely person who I would like to say she has become a good friend over the years of our working together.
