Sparrows End
Saffron Waldon
Unfortunately the house related poorly to its setting, with a series of rooms that did not enjoy or exploit views to the landscape. The kitchen was at the furthest and coldest side of the house and offered nowhere for the family to gather.
We suggested opening up the house from side to side and front to back, to allow the fabulous views to be appreciated from anywhere; we moved the kitchen to the opposite end of the house and designed a new single storey family and dining room.
This extension contrasts against the white rendered bulk of the original house, clad in slate as a single monolithic element. Beyond this new extension is a new swimming pool, terrace and pool room with views over an expansive woodland, connecting the house and outdoor spaces to the generously planted arboretum beyond.
