Annexe to the Eco House

We were invited back to this eco-house 9 years after we had completed it to look at options for creating a music room and practice studio for this very musical family. Extending the house was not an option because of planning covenants, so we decided to look at a small, standalone solution that could be built without planning permission by complying with regulations for buildings in gardens.
 

We decided to locate it to the south-west edge of the main house, forming a courtyard space with planting and landscaping. The large, glazed screens to the east and west offer views through to the garden and fields beyond. The new annexe complements the existing house and reinforces the relationship with the wider landscape.
