Copper House
Cambridge
Our clients asked us to look at updating, extending and making their existing home more sustainable and easy to live in; the existing house had a deep plan form and cellular rooms that did not provide good natural lighting, a particular problem in dark winter months. By opening up the existing and connecting to new extensions to the rear, we achieved front to back through views with more natural light.
We did a full refurb which included digging out the existing ground floor slabs and introducing insulation in excess of Part L requirements for walls, floor and roof.
The additional insulation and air tightness measures led to an A rating 99% EPC, which for a refurbishment project is quite something. The house requires very little energy to heat , it also has the benefit of a full PV solar array on the roofs, air source heat pump and an MVHR system.
The rear extensions, clad in copper sit comfortably within the densely planted boundaries. These new rear living spaces onto a new patio with bespoke water feature and creates a seamless inside to outside space.
Toni is a delightfully creative and empathic designer. She designed and managed the project of rebuilding our house from the inside out with exquisite taste and meticulous attention to detail. She brought her own creative design ideas but always in conversation with our thoughts and wishes.
