Extension to a modernist house
Cambridge
This stylish but idiosyncratic 1930’s house which required a complete refurbishment is a classified 'Building of Local Interest', (BLI). We worked with the City Conservation Officers to agree a strategy for its reorganisation and extension to create a small, sheltered new entry courtyard along with new formal living room, music room and study, connected by a fully glazed link to the main house.
The design Toni created helped make sense of the site, with a sensitive contemporary addition that balanced the existing house. We were moving from a much larger home but Toni encouraged us not just to build bigger but to build smarter and plan the layout and uses of each room so that the end result met our needs perfectly for our family, created separate at home work spaces and an open feel that worked perfectly for entertaining.
